Gay students win appeal in Virginia
RICHMOND, Va. PA federal appeals court said yesterday that public colleges or universities cannot bar a homosexual student's group from campus registration simply because they do not agree with the group's objectives.
The court said an association of students whose objectives are legal must be accorded the same rights as any other campus organization. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a U.S. District Court ruling that declined to order Virginia Commonwealth University to permit registration of the Gay Alliance of Students.
